Bad news: Bush has vowed to veto the bill.

Worst news: Leaders of the House may strip gender identity from ENDA.

The twist: It was just confirmed that leadership of the House has stripped gender identity from ENDA. They are working on “splitting” it into two bills - one on sexual orientation and one on gender identity. The plan is to run the sexual orientation ENDA through the House next week.

A number of national LGBT organizations have signed on to a statement opposing the split bills. The current list includes:

National Center for Lesbian Rights;
National Center for Transgender Equality;
National Gay and Lesbian Task Force;
National Stonewall Democrats;
National Coalition for LGBT Health;
National Coalition of Anti-Violence Projects;
PFLAG and the AFL-CIO’s Pride at Work.

HRC has not yet taken a public stand.

What to do?

Call your Representatives (especially Speaker Pelosi and Rep. George Miller) today and urge them to put gender identity back to the bill.
