Better Search Engine

After checking the search engine placements on the search engine giants, I came to the conclusion that, apparently Google has very little sensitivity to personal websites. When I search for Cecilia Chung on Google, my site came in the 5th place. The top four were not even for the name “Cecilia Chung”, they are sites about “Cecilia Cheung” who is an actress from Hong Kong.

At least Yahoo is nice enough to ask if I spelled the name correctly. When you search for Cecilia Chung on Yahoo, at least this site is on the top. The possible explanation is that Yahoo has a more sensitive way to index website informations.

Speaking of search engines. There is another player who’s targeting the philanthropic communities.

GoodSearch.com, powered by Yahoo, is receiving lots of attention from the non-profit sector. Here’s how it works: Search the Internet just like you normally would — the site is powered by Yahoo!, so you’ll get the same quality search results you’re accustomed to. 50% of the revenue generated from advertisers is shared with the charity, school or nonprofit organization of your choosing.

GoodSearch can not only help fund organizations focused on recent major disasters including 9/11, the Indian Ocean tsunami and now Hurricane Katrina, but it is invaluable to the hundreds of thousands of smaller causes that have a hard time raising funds to begin with and often see further shortages in contributions due to the overwhelming support for disaster relief.

In addition to this added cash, smaller charities and schools benefit from the increased awareness and visibility they can get by being listed with GoodSearch or featured as the site’s “Charity of the Day” on its home page.

The best part? It costs you absolutely nothing to use the charitable search portal but the non-profit organizations that your support will have much to gain. So why wait? Take it for a spin and perhaps you can even make it your home page.

Note: If you click on the Goodsearch link on this page, the default beneficiary will be Transgender Law Center.
