Pan’s Labyrinth

I went with my cousin Karen this afternoon to the new Century Theatre in Westfield Shopping Center (downtown San Francisco) to see “Pan’s Labyrinth”, which has to be the must-see movie for the holidays. It is more than just a dark fairy tale for adults. The contrast of violence and beauty is intense as if an epic poem came to life and unfold itself on the silver screen.
The year was 1944 when Spain was in civil war. The plot is about a young girl, Ofeilia, who submerged herself into an ancient fairy tale as a way to escape the harsh reality and her journey into a world of chaos, violence as well as beauty. Although “Pan’s Labyrinth” is a foreign movie, the director (Guillermo del Toro) manged to captivate his audience with amazing special effects and cinematography.
If you are planning to see it before the holidays end, be prepared for a emotional roller coaster ride as well as to take an exit poll.
